Aquatic production

Aquatic production

This study track it for students with interested in Aquatic Production from the value chain perspective! You will start at NMBU and must submit your application for enrolment at NMBU.

In the first year your will gain competences in Aquatic Production at NMBU and in the second year you can decide to carry on your studies either at DTU or at SLU.

At DTU you will gain additional competences in industrial production whilst at SLU you will gain additional competences in Fish and Wild Life Management.

Learning outcome

  • Describe physiology, anatomy, health and welfare of fish and to be able to apply it to aquatic production. Evaluate the cause and effect relationship of different production techniques/strategies and handling process during the life of the fish and final process quality of fish as food & aquaculture
  • Analyse and evaluate  systems used in aquatic production and optimizethe production of broodstock, juvenile and adult fish
  • Assess the economical, technical, environmental, and biological challenges of today’s and tomorrow's aquatic production from a management perspective.
  • Evaluate the cause and effect of different production techniques/strategies and handling process during the life of the fish and final process of fish as food (DTU specialization)
  • Assess quality attributes by relevant sensory, microbiological, biochemical and chemical methods throughout the production (DTU specialization).
  • Classify  on the basis of problem formulation, method accomplishment, personnel and equipment requirements, permits, and animal welfare and ethical issues (SLU specialization)
  • Apply population ecology, especially with regard to sustainable use of harvested animal populations and the conservation of small populations (SLU specialization)
